Last night, I was watching an interesting show about the US Navy SEALS. You know, SEAL Team 6. How awesome are they!
One commentator was an ex-SEAL and a past member of SEAL Team 6, so he had good insight into the mentality of a SEAL.
He said this: “One thing that all Navy SEALS have is confidence.” This statement immediately struck me and how I could compare and contrast a SEAL to what YOU can become!
First, let’s answer some questions:
Q: Why do the SEALS have confidence?
A: They have the OVERWHELMING belief that they will OVERCOME all obstacles in their way and succeed. They thrive on OVERCOMING.
—————————————————————————–
Q: How do SEALS obtain this confidence?
A: They “believe” they will OVERCOME all obstacles by the mindset of what they accomplished becoming a SEAL. They develop this mindset through their beliefs, actions, and results!
—————————————————————————–
Q: Do SEALS ever believe they are going to fail?
A: No, failure is not an option. Why? Because they believe they can overcome anything. They are confident!
—————————————————————————–
Q: Home does a guy who wants to meet beautiful women compare to a SEAL?
A: In short, they practice & learn until they KNOW they can perform a task. They always “believe” they will overcome obstacles. They face fear and, in fact, they enjoy facing fear. Again, a SEAL principle: Fear must be attacked or it will become anxiety. A confident man attacks fear, he doesn’t run from it.
—————————————————————————–
The reality…..
SEALS DO fail! They just have the mindset that they won’t. A good guy trying to meet a woman will sometimes fail as well! He just has the mindset that he won’t. We call that mindset...Confidence!
In short……
1. Attack fear: often, rapidly, & properly.
2. Have the OVERWELMING belief that you will succeed at the things you want to do.
That’s Confidence!

“SEALS DO fail! They just have the mindset that they won’t. ”
Isn’t this delusional? In order to have confidence, then, we must lie to ourselves?
Faith and confidence is based on something.
winggirl highlighted it when she said
“A: They “believe” they will OVERCOME all obstacles by the mindset of what they accomplished becoming a SEAL. They develop this mindset through their beliefs, actions, and results!”
The confidence comes as a result of doing what needs to be done. The beliefs and actions(training also)
What needs to be done or rather what you know needs to be done might sometimes be wrong or insufficient. you might sometimes have the wrong intelligence and faulty equipment.
You are confident in what you know. That that you don’t know is not know and so you are unaware of it. You are not scared of facts you don’t know exists.
One has to believe that they will succeed in anything that is realistic. It would delusional if they has NO chance of success.
the point is they learned skills (training) and know those skills give them the abilities to overcome obstacles.
right – so where does one get the sense that their goal is realistic?
seals may fail, but they have the mindset they won’t because they’ve succeeded previously in seal-like activities.
success breeds confidence, which breeds more success, which breeds more confidence, and the cycle goes… but you need that initial success first.
You are correct, but missing this piece:
The initial success is overcoming the fear.
It’s the FIRST step in fact. Logic tells a person when a goal is realisitic.
Seals don’t have confidence…they just have balls of steel and foreskin made of kevlar.
don’t forget they fart sarin gas also.
Well, the training pipeline is what…2 years? The first 3 weeks of BUDS is super intense.
Not sure I want to compare my ‘meeting girls’ to completing Hell Week.
More like a first parachute jump.
It’s 5 years before you can even go on your first mission. It takes a certain type of guy to be a seal. It’s more mental strength than anything though. I bet these guys still chicken out when it comes to approaching women though…Getting shot at is easier than being rejected by a woman.
