Opened my email this morning and got a really good email from Adam Gilad on How To Flirt Without Words. Wanted to share and add my commentary.
Adam's email on how to flirt without words:
So I am here in Medellin, Colombia with a small group of friends. We're here to get some work done, to experience a new country, to flirt of course and to learn the language.
Now, you know me, I'm a wordsmith – yet here I am unilaterally disarmed.
I can't use my best “weapons.”
Or can I?
I always say that flirting is just grown-up play. (Marni's commentary: I totally agree with this. Flirting is just having fun, being playful and totally acting like you did when you were a kid)
You already know how to play – you were BORN knowing how to play. It's just that schools, work, church and other self-serving institutions have beat play out of you.
But it's still in you.
What you NEED to do is detach the play of flirting from the neediness of “getting laid.” (Marni's Commentary: That is a really powerful statement. When we get older we attach soooo much to an outcome that we forget to just have fun. Once you remove the desired outcome and simply just have a goal to have fun, it all changes. No room for EGO's in the dating world)
And just have fun.
In just two days here, we've made so many new friends with beautiful women (and women are unrealistically SCORCHING here! Every time you blink – there's another Selma Hayek, another Penelope Cruz, another blossoming Catherine Zeta-jones)
I don't need complicated words.
At the money exchange counter, when she passed me a piece of paper for a thumbprint, I asked, “Tu quieras mi nombre telefono?” She cracked up.
The next time, I gestured, as if asking her if she wanted me to kiss it and pass it back through under the glass. She cracked up.
I handed her a bunch of twenties and said, “por mio.” Then one on the side, “por ti.” She cracked up.
Just pointless, flirtatious fun.
Then I took common phrases from our phrasebook and decided we could jazz them up.
So instead of “please speak slower,” we used Google Translate to create, “Stop being so intelligent and just talk slower.” They loved that one!
When I ordered dinner, I asked for “Un bistec, una cerveza y una esposa Colombiana (“A steak, a beer and a Colombian wife”)
Fun and flirtation are international.
So start flirting and having fun instead of focusing on picking up and getting laid.
It was a really simple message that I thought was cool to share. In case you didn't get the message from Adam's newsletter it was “JUST HAVE FUN and don't worry about picking up”. As Neil Strauss once said to me “The best time to meet girls is when you're not trying to meet girls.”
So get out there this week and just start focusing on having fun. Mess around with people and enjoy it!
